Nissan Motor India has achieved its highest sales figures since the fiscal year 2017-18, largely driven by the success of the Nissan Magnite. Unveiled in October 2024, this B-SUV has played a pivotal role in boosting both domestic sales and exports.
In the fiscal year 2024, Nissan Motor India reported consolidated sales exceeding 99,000 units, marking a 35 percent increase compared to the previous year. Domestic sales surpassed 28,000 units, while exports reached a record high of over 71,000 units. The company's export footprint expanded significantly, growing from 20 to more than 65 international markets, thereby solidifying India's position as a vital production and export hub within Nissan's global operations.
By August 2024, cumulative sales of the Nissan Magnite had reached 150,000 units. The model also achieved a notable export milestone, with 50,000 units shipped to both right-hand-drive (RHD) and left-hand-drive (LHD) markets, with Saudi Arabia emerging as the primary destination for the LHD variant.
Through its 'One Car, One World' initiative, Nissan aims to strengthen its status as a leading global automotive exporter. The company's export activities have shown steady growth, with shipments increasing from 32,389 units in the fiscal year 2020 to over 71,000 units in the fiscal year 2024.
In terms of strategic restructuring and future initiatives, Nissan is implementing a comprehensive reorganization of its operations in India as part of its global turnaround strategy. The automaker plans to divest its interests in its Chennai joint venture factory to its Alliance partner, Renault, with the transaction anticipated to conclude by mid-2025, pending regulatory approval. This move is intended to streamline operations while maintaining a strong focus on the Indian market.
Looking ahead, Nissan has revealed plans to introduce two new models: a seven-seater B-MPV in the fiscal year 2025 and a five-seater C-SUV in the fiscal year 2026. Additionally, the company is expanding its dealership network to enhance accessibility and improve customer service.
Moreover, in an effort to mitigate increasing input and operating costs, Nissan has announced a price hike of up to 3 per cent for all variants of the New Nissan Magnite from April 1, 2025.
