Booking Open, But No Trace Online: Maruti Grand Vitara CNG’s Mysterious Move

11 days ago | 5 Views

Maruti Suzuki has removed the CNG variants of the Grand Vitara SUV from both the Nexa official website and the model's brochure, leading to speculation regarding the potential discontinuation of the petrol-CNG version of this premium SUV. Nevertheless, prospective buyers interested in reserving the petrol-CNG variant can still do so through the dedicated reservation section on the Nexa website.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara offers two petrol-CNG trim options—Delta MT CNG and Zeta MT CNG—which are currently absent from the SUV's variant listing and brochure. However, when a reservation is made, a drop-down menu in the dedicated section reveals these two CNG trim choices. This suggests that the manufacturer may be preparing for the MY2025 model, which is expected to be launched soon with necessary enhancements.

Notably, Maruti Suzuki introduced the MY2025 Grand Vitara earlier this month, featuring updates such as new 17-inch precision-cut alloy wheels, standard six airbags, an eight-way adjustable powered driver seat, an Electronic Parking Brake for the six-speed automatic variants, Auto Purify with PM 2.5 Display, new LED cabin lights, and rear door sunshades, along with a new Delta+ Strong Hybrid variant and an E20-compliant engine. Additionally, customers can choose a sunroof in the new Zeta (O), Alpha (O), Zeta+ (O), and Alpha+ (O) variants. However, the petrol-CNG variant has not received these updates. The recent delisting of the petrol-CNG version suggests that the automaker may soon reintroduce this model.

Low sales could be another reason for delisting

The booking availability for the Delta MT CNG and Zeta MT CNG variants of the Grand Vitara pertains specifically to the MY2024 models, which are equipped solely with dual front airbags, in contrast to the six standard airbags featured in the MY2025 model. This raises the possibility of an additional reason for the delisting.

Although there has been an increasing consumer interest in petrol-CNG variants of passenger vehicles in India in recent years, this particular sub-segment remains largely dominated by fleet operators. Within this market, Maruti Suzuki models such as the Alto K10, Dzire, WagonR, Ertiga, and Swift enjoy significant demand, whereas the Grand Vitara does not. The relatively high initial price of this mid-size SUV has hindered its appeal within the fleet sector. Furthermore, unlike its aforementioned counterparts, there is no Tour version of the Grand Vitara available.

Given these considerations, it is plausible that Maruti Suzuki has chosen to delist and discontinue the petrol-CNG variant of the Grand Vitara due to concerns regarding sales viability. However, the manufacturer has yet to make any official statements regarding this matter.
