Bollywood rapper and music producer Badshah has been hit with a ₹15,500 fine by the Gurugram traffic police. He was spotted driving his black Mahindra Thar on the wrong side of Sohna Road to dodge the traffic. His convoy, which included three cars, was also breaking traffic rules while heading to Airia Mall in Sector 68.

On Sunday, December 15, the road was jam-packed with fans trying to get to Karan Aujla's concert. There were also reports on social media about Badshah's bodyguards acting out of line with other drivers. Interestingly, as per Livemint, the car he was driving isn’t even registered in his name; it belongs to a young guy from Panipat..

Is driving on the wrong side a common thing in Gurugram?

A few months back in September, there was another tragic event on Golf Course Road in Gurugram where an SUV was spotted driving the wrong way. Unfortunately, a motorbike rider collided with the SUV and lost his life. A friend of the motorcyclist, who was riding behind him and filming with an action camera, captured the whole thing.

The Motor Vehicle Act addresses driving on the wrong side of the road.

Driving on the wrong side of the road is a serious offense under the MV (Motor Vehicle) Act 2019. Specifically, Section 194D addresses wrong-way driving on one-way streets, while Section 184 covers dangerous driving. If it's your first offense, you could face a fine between ₹500 and ₹1,000 and possibly up to 6 months in jail. For repeat offenders, the fines can skyrocket to ₹10,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 2 years. Plus, if you keep making the same mistake, law enforcement might even impound your vehicle.

Virender Vij, the deputy commissioner of police (traffic), confirmed that action was taken against the vehicle after several videos of the incident circulated on social media. He mentioned, “Multiple passersby recorded the incident and shared it online. After the footage went viral, Gurugram Traffic Police acted quickly and slapped a hefty fine on the singer’s black Thar."
