Following its presentation at the Auto Expo 2025 last month, the BYD Sealion 7 has been officially introduced in India, marking the automaker's fourth model in the Indian market. It joins the ranks of the BYD Seal, BYD eMax 7, and BYD Atto 3. Priced between ₹48.90 lakh and ₹54.90 lakh (ex-showroom), the BYD Sealion 7 is positioned as a premium electric SUV, competing against formidable contenders such as the BMW iX1 LWB, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6 in India.

With the launch of the Sealion 7, BYD aims to capture a significant share of the rapidly expanding Indian electric passenger vehicle market. A comparison between the BYD Sealion 7 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is provided below.

The BYD Sealion 7 is offered at a price range of ₹48.90 lakh to ₹54.90 lakh (ex-showroom), varying according to the Premium and Performance variants. In contrast, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is available at a price of ₹46.05 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more affordable than its Chinese competitor. It is important to note that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is sold in a single variant, whereas the BYD Sealion 7 provides multiple options.

BYD Sealion 7 vs Hyundai Ioniq 5: Specification

The BYD Sealion 7 is equipped with an 82.5 kWh battery pack. The Premium variant features a front-wheel drive configuration, while the Performance trim is designed with an all-wheel drive system. The Premium variant delivers a peak power of 308 bhp and a maximum torque of 380 Nm, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, with a range of up to 567 kilometers on a full charge. In contrast, the Performance trim utilizes the same battery pack but generates a peak power of 522 bhp and a maximum torque of 690 Nm. This variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and offers a range of up to 542 kilometers on a full charge.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is powered by a 72.6 kWh battery and features a rear-wheel drive configuration. This electric vehicle produces a peak power of 214 bhp and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, allowing it to achieve a range of up to 631 kilometers on a full charge. When comparing the two electric vehicles, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 demonstrates a greater range on a single charge.
