BYD India presented an array of products at the Auto Expo 2025, including the Yangwang U8, and announced the availability of the BYD Sealion 7 for booking. Notably, the company also introduced the BYD Sealion 6, which may represent the first plug-in hybrid model from BYD in India. The company indicated that it is currently evaluating hybrid options within the Indian market.

The BYD Sealion 6 PHEV is available in markets such as Australia, featuring a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an 18.3 kWh battery. This combination enables the hybrid SUV to achieve a remarkable range of up to 1,092 km on a full charge and a complete refill of its 60-litre fuel tank.

Globally, the model is offered in two variants. The base variant, known as Sealion 6 Dynamic, generates 197 hp from the front-axle motor and an additional 98 hp from the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine, resulting in a total output of 218 bhp and 300 Nm of torque.

In contrast, the Premium variant is equipped with an extra 163 bhp rear motor and a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 131 hp, culminating in a combined output of 324 hp and 550 Nm. The Dynamic variant is reported to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, while the Premium variant achieves this in a claimed 5.9 seconds. Both variants offer an electric-only range of 81 km and 92 km, respectively.

BYD Sealion 6: Design and dimensions

Sealion 6 has dimensions of 4,775 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and a height of 1,670 mm, with a wheelbase measuring 2,765 mm. The boot capacity varies from 425 liters to 1,440 litres, contingent upon the seating configuration. The weight of the SUV ranges from 1,940 kg to 2,100 kg, depending on the specific variant, and it is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with 235/50 R19 tyres. Although it shares similar design elements with the Sealion 7, the Sealion 6 features a more conventional grille.

BYD Sealion 6: Cabin and features

The interior of the SUV is designed with a dual-tone colour scheme, available in either tan and black or off-white and black, complemented by silver accents on the dashboard and center console. The vehicle is equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel, leatherette seating, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster.

In terms of safety, the SUV is outfitted with seven airbags, an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), 360-degree cameras, front and rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Additional features include a 10-speaker Infinity audio system, power-adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and dual-zone climate control, ensuring optimal comfort during travel.
