BMW Motorrad India has ceased production of its most entry-level motorcycles, the BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS. These locally manufactured models were introduced to the Indian market in 2018 but have now been quietly removed from the company's offerings. BMW Motorrad dealerships have verified this information to HT Auto, although the German automaker has not yet provided an official statement. Furthermore, the BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS have been removed from the brand's website in India.

BMW G 310 R & G 310 GS Discontinued

The BMW G 310 RR, a full-faired motorcycle, stands as BMW Motorrad's most accessible model worldwide. According to dealers, the G 310 R and G 310 GS have not been available for purchase since January of this year and have not been updated to comply with OBD-2B standards. It is important to note that the G 310 twins remain available in other markets, suggesting that these motorcycles may still be sold in different countries as long as local regulations permit. Additionally, the G 310 RR is essentially a badge-engineered variant of the TVS Apache RR 310, which likely explains the brand's decision to retain this model in its offerings.

The BMW G 310 R, G 310 RR, and G 310 GS share the same underpinnings but only the G 310 RR will now be available in the brand's lineup

The BMW G 310 R, G 310 RR, and G 310 GS are built on the same platform; however, only the G 310 RR will remain in the brand's offerings. Launched globally in 2015, the BMW G 310 R was the inaugural motorcycle resulting from the collaboration between TVS and BMW. This roadster was later joined by the G 310 GS, an adventure variant, with both models manufactured at the TVS Motor Company's facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. BMW initially focused on exporting the G 310 twins, followed by their introduction in India in 2018 after a prolonged anticipation.

The G 310 twins represented BMW Motorrad's entry into the burgeoning 300-500 cc motorcycle market, which is currently filled with numerous options. The BMW G 310 R competed with models such as the KTM 390 Duke, Kawasaki Z300, and Honda CB300R. Nevertheless, it struggled to achieve the same level of success as some of its rivals. The decline in sales figures likely contributed significantly to the decision by the German manufacturer to discontinue both models.

BMW G 310 Twins Powertrain

Both the BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS were equipped with a well-known 313 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, delivering 34 bhp at 9,500 rpm and a peak torque of 28 Nm at 7,500 rpm, coupled with a 6-speed transmission. The chassis components were identical, featuring USD front forks and a rear monoshock, while braking was handled by disc brakes at both ends, complemented by dual-channel ABS. The G 310 GS was designed with a longer suspension travel to enhance its off-road capabilities.

The discontinuation of the G 310 R and G 310 GS will be succeeded by a new platform. A preview of this was showcased at EICMA 2024 and the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo through the F 450 GS concept. This concept motorcycle is set to lead to the development of a new twin-cylinder adventure bike, which is expected to offer enhanced performance and aesthetics similar to the flagship R 1300 GS. Additionally, this new platform is anticipated to give rise to various models across multiple segments in the future.

Similar to the G 310 twins, the forthcoming BMW F 450 GS is expected to be manufactured by TVS in India and subsequently exported to international markets, with its global production launch anticipated later this year. However, there will not be a corresponding model from TVS. Instead, TVS is preparing to introduce its new 300 cc adventure motorcycle, which may be released by the end of this year.
