AUDI’s new sub-brand for China, AUDI, has launched its inaugural model—the E5 Sportback electric vehicle. This initiative is part of Audi’s collaboration with SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) as the firm adapts to the growing competition from domestic electric car manufacturers in China, including Zeekr and Yangwang.

The E5 Sportback represents AUDI's reaction to the rapidly evolving needs of luxury EV consumers in China. Facing strong competition from local brands such as Zeekr and Yangwang, AUDI aims to set itself apart with a vehicle that combines the sophistication of a luxury car and the newest technology. This model is the first in a lineup of China-targeted vehicles built on a shared Advanced Digitized Platform, which also supports the MG IM L6.

Notably, the MG IM L6 made its first appearance in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. However, this was merely a presentation, and it has not yet been confirmed if the model will be available in India.

AUDI E5 Sportback: Dimensions and Design

With a length of 4881mm and a width of 1995mm, the five-door AUDI E5 Sportback is strategically placed in the executive sedan market, competing against models like the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.

Departing from the typical Audi styling, the E5 Sportback showcases more streamlined wheel arches and a brand-new front grille that is uniquely illuminated, substituting the four-ring emblem with a simpler capital "AUDI" logo. The lighting design includes slim Matrix LED headlights along with a matching slim rear light configuration.

Power options for the AUDI E5 vary from 220kW to an astonishing 579kW in the highest trim, which AUDI asserts can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in merely 3. 4 seconds. Each variant is equipped with a powerful 100kWh battery, providing a maximum range of up to 770km—although the testing standard for this measurement has not been revealed.

The charging capabilities are also impressive, owing to an 800-volt system that allows for 370 km of range to be added in just 10 minutes, assuming compatible infrastructure is available.

AUDI E5 Sportback: Cabin and features

Within, the interior is a blend of luxury coupled with tech-forward features. It includes ambient lighting, speaker-integrated headrests, a fragrance diffuser, and a standout component of a 27-inch curved 4K screen that divides the infotainment system and digital cluster. AI integration for voice and touch control, along with wireless phone chargers that provide 50W power and cooling, are also offered.

After the E5 Sportback, AUDI will introduce two additional electric vehicles in 2026 and 2027. These cars, similar to the E5, are likely to remain China-specific.
