The Volvo XC90 facelift is set to be launched in India today, featuring a refreshed design and enhanced features. This flagship SUV from the Chinese-owned Swedish manufacturer was globally unveiled last year. This marks the XC90's second significant redesign in ten years, aimed at maintaining its competitiveness against other luxury SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Lexus UX 350h. The XC90 will be available in both six and seven-seater configurations, offering three engine choices: two mild hybrids and one plug-in hybrid.

Volvo has indicated that the entry-level mild-hybrid XC90 will have a starting price of $58,450 (approximately ₹49.25 lakh), while the plug-in hybrid variant will be priced at $73,000 (around ₹61.51 lakh). The 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift will be introduced in India with only two of the three engine options available globally. The PHEV model will represent the top tier in India, while the base model will utilize the B5 engine. Currently, specific pricing details for India are not available, but estimates suggest a cost range between ₹1.01 crore and ₹1.05 crore (ex-showroom).

2025 Volvo XC90: Key Changes

The latest updates to the XC90 feature a redesigned front grille with diagonal slats. The LED daytime running lights maintain their signature Thor hammer appearance with slight modifications, and the front bumper has been updated to include additional air vents. The facelift also introduces new alloy wheel designs and a refreshed look for the LED taillights. These enhancements constitute the XC90's second major facelift since its initial launch in 2014.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with a new 11.2-inch infotainment display, replacing the previous nine-inch version. This display is vertically positioned between the air conditioning vents and above the HVAC controls. The plug-in hybrid variant of the XC90 features a dedicated shortcut for activating the electric-only driving mode. The overall interior layout remains consistent, and the XC90 will still be available in seven-seat configurations. Additionally, Volvo has enhanced the ride quality of the XC90 by incorporating Frequency Selective Damping technology, improved sound insulation, and increased storage options.

2025 Volvo XC90: Specifications

The Volvo XC90 facelift keeps the same engine options as before while entirely ditching the diesel mill that was available earlier. All options are all-wheel drive and use an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The B5 powertrain features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 247 bhp, while the B6 variant adds a supercharger to boost power to 297 bhp. Both of these are mild hybrid units with a 48-volt electric motor. The powerful PHEV option boasts a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 455 bhp. The front axle holds the petrol engine, which produces 310 bhp on its own. This is paired with a 145 bhp rear electric motor and a 14.7 kWh battery pack. With this, the Volvo XC90 PHEV offers a claimed electric driving range of 71 km.
