Tesla has commenced testing the 2025 Model Y on Indian roads. The electric vehicle was observed on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, camouflaged for the trials. Several reports suggest that Tesla plans to establish its first dealership in Mumbai, initially offering fully imported electric vehicles in India.

The Model Y is anticipated to be the brand's first launch in the Indian market, which is a logical choice given the current global popularity of SUVs. Additionally, the Model Y's ground clearance is advantageous, particularly for the Indian market, where road conditions can be challenging. Previously, Tesla had been testing the earlier generation of the Model 3, which encountered significant issues related to its ground clearance.

In the global market, the Model Y is available only in a single configuration. It gets an all-wheel drive powertrain with the long range battery pack. It has an EPA-rated range of 526 km and a top speed of 200 kmph. It can accelerate from 0-96 kmph in 4.6 seconds.
